A dance instructor is facing charges alleging he sexually assaulted two students.

The Vermont State Police say Ernest Phillips, known as “E-Knock,” sexually assaulted two of his students at a Waterbury dance school multiple times over the course of a year.

Phillips, a choreographer and dancer, has appeared on several reality television shows, including “So You Think You Can Dance,” “America’s Best Dance Crew” and “The Amazing Race.”

In 2012, law enforcement began investigating Phillips based on accounts from one of his dance students who reported being sexually assaulted by him.

According to the Vermont State Police, the investigation showed that Phillips sexually assaulted the student several times over one year.

In the course of the investigation, a second student reported having had similar encounters with Phillips, according to police. That student was a minor when the alleged assaults occurred.

Police arrested Phillips on Tuesday at his workplace in Essex, and he was taken to Northwest State Correctional Facility in Swanton. He is due in Washington County criminal court in Barre on Wednesday for arraignment.
