WINOOSKI — The city is investigating allegations that Fire Chief David Bergeron acted inappropriately earlier this month. Bergeron is on paid administrative leave.

City Manager Katherine Decarreau declined to comment on the situation Wednesday but provided a redacted copy of a letter sent March 22 to Bergeron, who also serves as the city’s code enforcement officer and emergency manager.

The letter states, in part, that Bergeron is being investigated after a report of “inappropriate conduct, with respect to (REDACTED), and printing inappropriate materials on city property” on March 17. “Our initial investigation has provided reason to believe these accusations may be valid and as such, you have been placed on paid administrative leave until such time as the investigation is complete,” the letter continues.

Decarreau said the redacted portion of the letter contained personal information about an individual. She said she could not comment on how long the investigation might take.

Attempts to reach Bergeron for comment Wednesday were unsuccessful.
