WARDSBORO — Detectives with the Vermont State Police are investigating a gunshot death on Gilfeather Road.

At just before 5 p.m. Tuesday, Wardsboro Rescue and Rescue Inc. were advised to set up a staging area at the Wardsboro Fire Department while the Vermont State Police responded to a report of a gunshot victim lying in a driveway.

According to a press release from the State Police, upon arrival troopers found a 42-yearold male deceased outside a residence. Identification of the deceased is pending next of kin notifications. Although cause and manner of death is pending an autopsy, initial scanner reports indicated there was the possibility of an active shooter. Later, police reported on the scanner that a shooter had been taken into custody. The press release, which was issued at 8:15 p.m., noted a man had been taken into custody. His identification is being withheld pending the completion of the preliminary investigation.

At this time there are no other suspects being sought in this incident, and there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the public.

At the scene, troopers had blocked off Gilfeather Road at Route 100, which was shrouded in fog rolling off Wardsboro Brook.
