Authorities are looking for a Vermont inmate who they say escaped the Northeast Correctional Complex in St. Johnsbury early Friday morning by scaling a fence.
Shannon Edwards, 35, is believed to be traveling back to Waterbury, where he is from, according to a news release from Vermont State Police.
State police said they responded to the St. Johnsbury facility around 1:15 a.m. Friday following the report of an escaped inmate. Police said they learned that Edwards got out by scaling a fence.
Troopers said they checked the area around the facility, including using a police dog to follow the scent, and issued an alert to other law enforcement, but Edwards was not located.
According to the Vermont Department of Corrections website, Edwards had been serving for crimes including burglary and resisting arrest and his minimum release date was in March 2022.
No other information was immediately available.
Anyone with information about Edwards’ whereabouts is asked to call the State Police St. Johnsbury barracks at 802 222-4680.
