A St. Albans police officer will be in court today to face several charges for allegedly breaking into a home — along with his father — of a woman the officer is accused of sexually assaulting and threatening her to not talk about the assaults.
Zachary Pigeon, of St. Albans, and a member of the St’ Albans police department is due to be arraigned at 11 a.m. in Franklin County Superior criminal court in St. Albans. He faces charges of aggravated sexual assault, kidnapping, burglary, simple assault, and obstruction of justice, according to state police.
Also, his father, Allen Pigeon, 56, of Swanton, has also been arrested and charged, facing offenses of kidnapping, burglary, simple assault and obstruction of justice, according to state police. He is also due to be arraigned at 11 a.m. in the same courtroom as his son.
Both men are currently being held without bail pending their arraignments later today.
Vermont State Police, who conducted the investigation in the cases, announced the arrests of the father and son in a press release late Sunday night.
According to the news release, state police began the investigation Friday when a 26-year-old woman reported that she had been sexually assaulted. Police said through their investigation they learned that between 2003 and 2007 the woman had been repeatedly threatened and sexaully assaulted by Zachary Pigeon.
Also, the woman reported that during the early morning of Sunday, April, while she was asleep, Zachary Pigeon and his father, Allen Pigeon, “entered the residence, forcibly removed her, physically assaulted her and threatened her,” the release stated.
On Sunday, state police said they interviewed Zachary and Allen Pigeon and then arrested both men.
State police said no other information is currently available. An affidavit of probable cause supporting the charges against the two men is expected to be publicly released following the arraignments later today.
