Chief Brandon del Pozo is currently on family and medical leave, Jordan Redell, a spokesperson for Mayor Miro Weinberger, announced in a statement Friday.
City officials did not provide details of what prompted del Pozo’s leave. Redell said that details related to a family and medical leave of absence are “protected by employee privacy rules.”
The police chief’s return date is yet to be determined, according the mayor’s office.
Del Pozo was in a bike crash in the Adirondacks last summer, breaking 10 bones on his left side, and suffering a partially collapsed lung and a serious concussion. He took a period of leave to recover, and returned to his post full time two months after the crash.
He was appointed to head the Burlington Police Department in 2015.
