The body of Eric Plett, 41, was found by search and rescue officials Wednesday near Shelburne Point.

Plett was last seen the evening of July 2, clinging to a yellow kayak near Dunder Rock. When friends returned to the site 30 minutes later, Plett and the kayak were missing.

Law enforcement and search personnel searched Lake Champlain for nine days. The Vermont State Police Marine Unit and Dive Team found the body using sonar on Wednesday.

The chief medical examiner’s office will conduct an autopsy.

The New York State Police, the Shelburne Police Department, the Shelburne Fire Department, the U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Customs and Border Protection assisted with the search.

An investigation into the incident is continuing.
