A judge granted an arrest warrant for Randal Gebo, 61, for first-degree murder in the death of Cindy Cook, 59, according to the Vermont State Police.
Cook’s body was found over an embankment on the side of a road in Middlesex in July.
The state’s medical examiner determined that she died of neck compressions and ruled the death a homicide, according to police.
Gebo is currently being held in prison in Illinois. He was arrested in Downers Grove, Illinois, a week after Cook’s body was discovered on charges related to stealing Cook’s cream-colored Mini Cooper. He also used her credit cards.
He is expected to be extradited to Vermont in the coming weeks, according to police.
The arrest warrant, granted by Vermont Superior Court Judge John Pacht, sets bail at $2 million.
