A man and a child passenger were trapped in a tractor after the vehicle rolled over on Friday afternoon. The 7-year-old died in the accident, which occurred on a farm in Fairfield, according to a press release from the Vermont State Police.
The tractor was pulling a manure tanker at the time of the incident and rolled on steep terrain, police said.
The man was able to free himself but could not remove the child from the tractor cab.
The child was pronounced dead at the scene. The man was transported to Northwestern Medical Center, treated for non-threatening injuries and released.
Heavy equipment operators removed the body of the child from the tractor.
Police have not identified the names of the accident victims pending notification of the next of kin.
